Pack Light
Your backpack may not seem heavy when you put it on at home, but after six blocks in the tropical sun, you’ll be miserable. Traveling light could even be seen as a safety measure, because you can move more quickly away from danger when you have less to carry.
Protect Your Money
Wear a money belt inside your clothes to keep your passport, cards and money supply safe. Before you leave, make sure your ATM cards and credit cards will work in the countries you are visiting — it is easier than traveler’s checks or large wads of cash。
Make friends
Whether you’re in the market, on a bush taxi or sleeping in a hostel, make friends with the people who live there. Backpacker around the globe have a sort of informal pact; we all watch out for each other.
Books are fabulous dinner companions. With a read you can pull out any time, you’re more likely to enjoy your solitude and less likely to feel lonely. Books are also great conversation starters. But don’t fill your backpack with books — they’re heavy and take up valuable space. Instead, carry just one or two, and keep your eye out for opportunities to swap with other travelers.
